The Battle of Vertière, which took place on November 18, 1803, was a
significant historical victory that paved the way for Haiti’s independence. It
represents the other side of the world social coin to Humanity. Haiti’s
victory manifested and included black and brown people.

Around 1803, France motto was “Liberty, Equality, Fraternity.” The United
States motto was “E Pluribus Unum,” meaning “out of many [states and
colonies], one. [nation.]”

Both countries like majority of Caucasian countries in the world espoused
ideals that sounded admirable, but their actions revealed a hypocritical
behavior and a strictly controlled vision. Despite proclaiming from the
rooftop liberty and equality, both countries cruelly enslaved black and
brown people for their own gains, in the process completely disregarding
their own mottoes. In fact, the US Constitution of 1787 even classified black
individuals as three-fifths of a person.

In contrast, Haiti’s independence in 1804 put these ideals into practice,
including black and brown oppressed people everywhere. Thus,
representation of being fully human was at the table. The Battle of Vertière
symbolized the triumph of freedom for all of humanity. As Sociology
Professor Cheikh Zo aptly stated in an interview, “this victory rings the Bell
of Freedom, offering a different perspective on humankind’s struggle for
equality.

There is another aspect of slavery, lest we understand and adhere to it, we
will miss out on the whole teaching. Some may even say, slavery has a
negative and a positive aspect. The negative dimension is not what is
important. It is rather the positive dimension that is fundamental. The
negative dimension is a constructed system in a society established to

crush, grind down, oppress, suppress, Humanity in people. However, the
Human Principle, when viewed through a positive lens, serves as a test
that reveals its invincibility. It cannot be extinguished from its carriers or its
environment. This principle stands strong, immune from external
circumstances. Its resilience is a testament to the indomitable nature of the
human spirit.”

Slavery, in its adopted form, was imposed upon the primordial man,
specifically the original Man – The Black Man. The Black Man became the
subject of tests and trials, serving as a symbol of the triumph over slavery.
This triumph is not solely attributed to the defeat of Napoleon’s army, but
rather to the preservation of one’s Humanity in the face of slavery’s
atrocities. The Principle of Humanity, which encompasses one’s Humanity,
ultimately prevails over all adversities. It is this principle that signifies the
victory of Christ over the Antichrist.

The question at hand is whether you align yourself with those who fight to
protect Humanity and uplift individuals from the oppressive system of
slavery, or if you stand with those who have trample the Principle of
Humanity. Have you witnessed the actions taken to undermine the Human
Principle, yet still find yourself drawn to them? Perhaps there are bling-bling
on their side of the fence that glitter and entices you.

Alternatively, is it the unwavering Human Principle that captivates your
attention? Are you a defender of this principle, one of the guardians of The
Sirr (The Innermost Secret), or do you find yourself acting as an
executioner of The Sirr? Or are you among those who seek to dismantle
The Sirr or deviate it from its goal towards other endeavors? This lies at the
core of the matter, a question that persists throughout time. Even when
encountering someone in life, it is crucial to assess whether the shared
values resonate at a level that aligns with one’s own Humanity.

When discussing slavery, it is important to shift our focus to the Triumph of
The Human Principles rather than dwelling on the usual litany of cruelties.
We must keep this in mind. We, Haitians, witnessed The Triumph of The
Human Principle firsthand. It is crucial to understand that Haitians come

from a lineage of triumphant people, not a lineage of losers. This is why
some individuals are taken aback and exclaim “WOW!” when they
encounter a Haitian. When white folks visit Haiti, they are astounded by our
resilience. They struggle to comprehend how we manage to navigate and
remain afloat through so many hardships. Observing Haitians laughing,
enjoying life, and finding joy in the midst of adversity showcases the true
essence of our humanity. It is a testament of our triumph. Despite all
circumstances, The Human Principle remains victorious in us. We stand tall
with our heads held high, our eyes fixed on the stars, for we are
descendants of winners. Haitians are not broken-down people, constantly
whining and complaining about trivial matters. On the contrary, we are a
people who have triumphed in the face of challenges that made to break
us.

The reference to the story of Job in this context signifies our connection to
a lineage of winners. Despite this heritage, some of us may exhibit loser-
like behavior. The issue at hand is the need to recognize and embrace our
status as winners. This is a call to action to those who identify as winners to
stand up and step forward to connect with their winning ancestors. It is
crucial to avoid associating with ancestors who were losers, spiritually
defeated, and mentally conquered. By aligning with the winners, Haitians
will discover our own winning nature and realize that we are not losers,
cowards, or whiners. The unfolding current events are mere remnants of
past defeated forces that were already conquered by our ancestors at the
height of their power. It is important to acknowledge this and refrain from
complaining.

The prevailing world system was built on the foundation of slavery, with today’s
superpowers accumulating their wealth through the blood and sweat of our
ancestors. These superpowers justified their crimes through fabricated laws, fake
scientific theories, and religious justifications. The current system is a re-calibrated
form of slavery, manifest in the exploitative relationship between people and labor,
as well as the existing separations based on skin color and social class. Diplomatic
relationships with these superpowers further highlight the mockery of white folks
now claiming to enlighten us on building a “model society.” Throughout history, it is
crucial to identify how the adopted form of slavery continues to manifest itself.
Adhering to the current world system betrays the ideals of Dessalines, who stood
firm against the oppressive system of his time.

Never forget, the triumph of the Human Principle is essential in the face of a system
that seeks to asphyxiate Humanity.
