US Planes Kill 16 People in Pakistan
At
least 16 people died Saturday during an air raid launched by US
drones against an alleged bastion of Islamic rebels in a tribal
zone in northwestern Pakistan.
According to Geo TV, the drones launched five
missiles on a building in Angora Adda, a locality in Southern Waziristan.
So far 16 corpses have been recovered among the
rubble, but the number of victims could increase because of the
serious state of injured people, added the TV channel.
The United States justifies its air raids within
the Pakistani territory by saying that elements of the Afghan Taliban
and Al Qaeda network are hidden in the tribal zones of Northwestern
Pakistan and that they are waging war on its troops stationed in
that neighbour country.
The attacks are also targeted at Tehreek-e-Taliban
Pakistan (TTP), the main local rebel organization accused of supporting
their Afghan colleagues.
However the Pakistani government, Washington's
ally, considered that the bombing exacerbated the anti-US feeling
due to the large number of fatal casualties among the civilian population.
